I loved the speech and this young man was a perfect choice to deliver it. I am a teacher, and I have watched it several times; each time it reminds me of how important my actions can be. Regardless of who authored it, the message has such impact because it was delivered by a child. We (the education community) need to hear a message like this from a voice that represents those in our charge--youth. His delivery in front of that crowd was phenomenal, and the message conveyed that day is being shared far beyond that immediate audience. I don't think this would be true if middle-aged district personnel would have stood on that stage with the same message.

Regardless of what mrl or youtilkdo's comments degrading the credibility of this 5th grader with such God given talent. He's done what many people, to include myself can only dream of doing in front of a large audience of that capacity. As mentioned by many commentors in this panel, whoever wrote the speech is irrelevant to the fact that his preparation, as well as the willingness to recite his speech displays a preview of his capabilities as he gets older, and with more mentoring. So, hats off to Dalton, and to those who defended his cause.
