SLAV – Re-imagining conference
Category: Conferences, Professional Development, Web 2.0
Monday’s SLAV conference ‘Re-imagining – Web 2.0 applications and implications’ at Melbourne’s Telstra Dome was a great success.
Will Richardson of Weblogg-Ed was an inspirational keynote. Having met him at NECC Philadelphia in 2005, I was interested to discuss where blogging and Web 2.0 had come since then. Like so many of us, he would never have believed at that time that the uptake into classrooms would be so difficult. Lots of reasons, but at the bottom line, it’s difficult to promote these tools if you’re not actually using them yourself so the dominant message is – just have a go at SOMETHING. He spoke rationally on the use of Wikipedia and shared his frustration in educating his own children in a non-inspiring educational environment.
Will attracted a large number of non-library professionals to the conference which was great as the influence of library reaches across the whole curriculum. I appreciated the chance to meet with Jo McLeahy again as we’ll be travelling together to NECC 2008 in a few weeks. I’ll attach my presentation tomorrow. It’s been a full week with as I also tapped into an online session with Marco Torres yesterday afternoon. Will get my presentation posted up here tomorrow – apologies for the delay for those waiting for links.
